We once attended a wedding where the officiating pastor called the immediate family forward to take vows to allow the new family that was being formed to “leave and cleave”.
I especially liked your point about addressing both the spouses in communications. In our family we always would express our love to each other as we parted to go to work, school, the store etc. because we never knew if it would be the last time we would see one another. Now, that our two daughters are married, we do the same thing with their spouses; often with a hug for both the son-in-law and the daughter.
Love those hugs, Don and Dolores! I’m sure your adult children’s mates feel very embraced by you!
